Hello, again. We eventually decided against the surgery and started a treatment with the local vet. He’s giving her a derivate of prednisone; she got her second shot today. We’ll be doing that twice a week. The mass hasn’t grown in size, but the vet said it seems to have altered in shape since the first echo, on August 2nd. It doesn’t necessarily sound very encouraging… She is still in great shape, active and eating well.

Some news… The piggie is still doing well, eating and in great shape. We are now going to the vet for treatment twice a week. The mass had shrunk a bit, and has now increased in size a little, hence the visits twice a week. We are at the point where we are trying to prolongue her life and keep her in good condition. She has had episodes of not eating before we discovered this problem and I was wondering how I would know if it’s just some digestive issue or a serious decompensation. Is she going to be in pain? I’m also a bit afraid to handle her, so that the mass doesn’t rupture and cause additional problems.

Thanks for the update. I understand your worrying about pain. You might get some help on this page. Loss of appetite is certainly a sign of pain, as you know, but I don't think it always means there is pain.

Unfortunately I don't know the answers to all your questions but know you will do the best you can for her.

Quick update. The piggie is still doing well. The tumour has shrunk significantly and she is always hungry and happy. The vet administers prednisone twice a week and so far it seems to be working. Hoping it lasts.

Our miraculous guinea pig is still going strong. It’s been five months since her diagnosis. Aside from the occasional diarrhea which we treat with quinine and mint tea and oils, she is well. Twice a week prednisone at the vet, which she doesn’t appreciate, but she is quick to forget.
Happy New Year to everyone, from Aurica the miracle pig!
