I will try to remember to add your pics later. It is also handy to have them displayed on the page.

Here are some bandaging techniques too:

The revolution should help. I hope he gets relief soon, if she is not going to prescribe anything for the painful itching

I would have insisted on some Metacam, but hopefully he won't need it. Keep us posted!

Hi! So it’s been a slow recovery, but I think we are finally seeing real improvement!

He did bite that new wound in his back last I posted, but the scab has healed and already come off. He is definitely less itchy, but still in some places in particular. That spot on his back really bothered him. More than his side did, he’d even cry a bit if I touched it, but now it’s only slightly bothersome! I have been weaning him off of the wraps, but I still think he needs it while I’m asleep/at work. We’re getting there...

The fur on his arm is almost completely back, and fur is growing in other places again! I can see baby hairs if I look closely. You can also see the spot on his back that is missing some hair.

In this pic you can see his progress! He’s on my lap right now and warming up from an anti-fungal bath (as prescribed by the vet)

Hopefully next update he’ll have a full coat again :)

Also, meet his buddy, Henry!

If you’re wondering, I have two attached Midwest guinea pig habitats! But they like being nearby each other :)

I am so happy to hear he is doing so well! I bet he will be thrilled to be cured of mites.

That's good news! Was the vet sure there was a fungal element to it? I ask because a water-based bath can make mites flare up. Unless the vet is sure there is a fungal infection along with the mites, I think I'd be inclined to hold off until he has improved even more. Others might want to weigh-in on it, though.

Are you still giving him Ivermectin treatments? Remind me...did we double-check the dosage on it for you? As severe as this was, he may need more than 3 treatments.

Yeah there was a spot on his back where he had chewed that had a white-ish powdery texture. The vet told me to bathe him with miconazole shampoo once a week for 2 weeks (or if I notice new spots) and let him soak so I could get it out. Also said he shouldn’t have live mites anymore so it shouldn’t bother him as much if anything but she gave me 3 full treatments of revolution to be sure we kill them all/their hatched eggs. I may do another round of my ivermectin after that. Will use the ivermectin I bought as a preventative from now on.

Thanks for all of the help!

I see. Hopefully he will continue to heal up. It's a huge improvement over those earlier photos!

It's not necessary to use the Ivermectin as a preventive, and could in theory cause mites to become immune to it. You could certainly do an extra round of it if he still show signs of itching/scratching, though.

Thanks, I didn’t know that. I’ll keep it on me just in case

Progress report! He’s basically back to his old self :) he’s still a little itchy and getting used to his new fur.

That's good news! How many doses of Ivermectin did he receive? Three? If so, and if he's still having some itchiness, you could go ahead and give him another dose or two.

I looked at your earlier pictures and this is a big improvement! Ditto on the possibility another dose or two might help. Really severe cases can require multiple treatments.

Here's one of your updates:
