Hi All,

My 6 year old girl Molly started having seizures. They started 2 days ago:

She was on the lawn, no poisonous plants, no mange mites. She was with two other guinea pigs who are perfectly fine. Within 4 hours she was exhibiting the below:

First Day:
She seemed confused, lost balance and her head was twitching.
No head tilt
No Salivation
Unable to walk properly
Looked lethargic and the body was limp

Treatment:
I took her to two vets, one thought it was toxcitiy of some kind. We did blood work at the specialists and fluids.
Blood work came back completely normal.
No ear infection.
No ear mites.
By the end of the day she was eating and running around again and seemed back to good health.
They gave me: Entroil, Meloxicam and Protexin as meds.

Day 2:
She looked fine this morning. I put her on a towel and gave her the first medication (Protexin).
She then started sneezing uncontrollably and her whole body started shaking.
I covered her with a towel and the seizure lasted for about 15 seconds.
She defecated and urinated during it, now she is weak, her hind legs seem not to move much and she is sitting in one place.

The vets don't know what is wrong. What can I do? What could it be?

Thank you for any help.

It sounds like either a neurological problem, or something toxic. I'd guess neurological, since if it were toxic, she likely wouldn't have had the several hours of improvement that you saw.

If it's neurological (stroke, etc), there's really nothing to be done for it.

I don't know what Entroil is, and can't find it by googling it. Is there another name for it? Or is that possibly misspelled?

She may move past this if it is neurological and improve so do monitor her closely, weigh daily, and hand feed if she is loosing weight to give her the best chance.

Thanks for your thoughts.

My vet thinks it could be the fertiliser that we used 30 days ago and she may have eaten a small amount of it from the soil. He said it may not have shown up in the blood results because the poison may be slow acting and affecting her brain instead. Thoughts?

Today she is very limp, ate a little so hand feeding is commencing. She has a seizure if I inject fluids so I am just feeding them orally instead. She will have a seizure if she is stressed at all.

Entroil can also be called Bactrim here in Australia - it is a broad spectrum antibiotic i think.

What is the poison in the fertilizer?

I so hope she turns around.
