Dede 'This thing is always around during my CC feedings...I wonder if I 'nibble' it, will I get dinner early?'

My adorable little baby girls; Dot their cheeky sister did bite a little cut in Delta's ear...she's always been fond of nibbling her siblings ears...strange little fuzz ball !

The Delta stare!

Little 'toothless' Dede singing away (Her front teeth haven't grown so are still lumps in the gum on the bottom and none up top)

Two little baby bums! Dede left and Delta right (It's at the point where I no longer get them mixed up and see them as both 'completely different' guineas in looks and personalities)

Lynx - They both seem to be doing great! (:

I've been wondering about teeth, when would Delta's get too long and need trimming?

For Dede, she doesn't have any front teeth at all....it seems the little teeth lumps in the gum are now gone....would the vets need to trim her two bottom molars since they don't have top molars to grind them down?

Not the best picture...but hard to get one since there isn't anything there to show...

I am guessing that yes, the two unopposed molars will need to be trimmed to prevent them from entrapping the tongue.

Sometimes a single bottom incisor can successfully keep a pair of top incisors even. If you are not seeing this, the slightly longer top incisor can be carefully filed with a glass file. Some people have used bone roungers (a cutter) to trim teeth. Others have used a grinding bit in a Dremel tool.

Let me know if you'd like your teeth pics added to your thread.

Rodent-Cuddles, you could send MildredM a note through the mailer here and ask about trimming lethal teeth. She has bone rongeurs and files, and trimmed Fairy's incisors regularly. If I remember correctly, though, she saw a rodentologist for molar trimming.

While they can be splintered, like any other guinea pig teeth, lethals' teeth are somewhat softer and easier for an owner to manage. We don't generally recommend that owners trim teeth, but it's such a frequent (read expensive) process with lethals, it's often the only way to manage it.

Thank you both - I've sent an email to both the vets we use...hopefully between the both of them one of them will have some sort of experience like this and will be able to help us long term with the girls.

And they'll be turning 4 weeks old tomorrow!

Their cage, with Dede's CC plate on the blue tidy mat

Dede eating her CC, not sure how come her eye looks red...it's more of a light red/grey/white/blue sort of colour depending on the light...

And little Dede in the front coming up to the camera, Delta alseep by mummy Darla and Darla lying down besides Delta...just keeping an eye on me and what I'm up to.

This morning Dede & Delta went and saw another vet we go to, we wanted to have their teeth checked out again so we are up-to-date with what's happening RE teeth and trimming.

Delta was being her little feisty self and didn't want to work with the vet. From what he could see, most of her molars are there but he couldn't get the best look as Delta wasn't having any of it. Her front teeth he said currently don't currently need trimming as they're not too long yet, but for us to keep an eye on them and bring her back every so often or when something's different.
Delta's front teeth are still the same - 2 top, 1 bottom.

When he looked at Dede's teeth he saw four little molars!!! Am so happy for her! He said he could see 2 on the bottom AND two on the top! I've got my fingers crossed that they'll grind themselves down since they have top & bottom directly above and below each other. One pair on each side.
Dede's front teeth are still the same 0 top, 0.5 bottom (Just a little bump in the gum..I doubt it'll grow since it hasn't in the past 4 weeks)

Because we didn't get the vet to check the girls sight and hearing when they were a couple days old, we asked him to just incase they do have some sight and/or hearing. From as far as he could tell they are both completely blind and deaf; but (as I like to think) they've still got an amazing sense of smell and can sense vibrations.

My happy little girls are currently doing well, they've gotten use to the time table...when Dede smells the other guinea's food she starts wheeking until I re-fresh her new plate of CC...she doesn't bother with fresh veggies at all and just ignores them.

There are times when I just feel like crying...and after going through my old videos and finding this one of Precious...crying is just what I feel like.

She was such an amazing girl.

I'm so happy to say, that Dede & Delta have made it to 5 weeks old!
I'll post some picture of them *and possibly their mum if she's okay with it* later today.
