Fungal? please help!
Hi! I am a new guinea pig owner. We got Brownie from Petco 2 weeks ago. About a week after we had her, I noticed some dry patches of skin on her neck, top of head and eye. A few days later, the patches got red and began loosing hair. I took her to the vet yesterday. They scraped the patch and looked at it under a microspcope, but it was negative for mites and ringworm so they are unsure what is going on but think it is fungal.
They gave her an injection and sent me home with 2 doses of Ivermectin to give her 10 days apart.
To me, from the research I have done, it looks like Ringworm. Anyone have any better ideas or suggestions? Are there any at home remidies I can try. it doesn't seem to bother her much but I feel terrible.
I can't seem to add a picture? Can someone tell me how you add one?

Was this an exotic vet? Because there's no definitive test for mites, and ringworm IS a fungus. Scraping is painful for the pig and for your pocketbook, misses the mites half the time, and the end result is the same either way-- treat for mites. Which is exactly what they did, except that the second and third doses of ivermectin should really be given seven days apart, not ten. And incidentally, a pig with mites severe enough to be losing hair will be scratching like made at the place.
You can get an over-the-counter antifungal at any pharmacy -- Lotrimin or Nystatin will work. Apply it with a q-tip and rub it in well.

yes the vet that we used specializes in exotics. Luckily, Petco covered this bil and medicationl since we were within 30 days of purchasing her.
I agree the scraping seemed unneccesary. Definitely painful for Brownie and made it look so mch worse then it did before. When I took her in it was a little red and scabby, but now looks like an open wound and she removed a lot of the hair.
Is it safe to use the antifungal in addition to the oral medicine she is on? Also figured out the picture :)

My baby had something like this after we had done a major .net/]pest control yesterday. Do you think that might be the cause?
