One of my guinea pigs has a piece of dried fruit stuck on his nail. It has been there for about three or four days. I went to clip his nails today and noticed that the piece of food was stuck to the underneath of his nail and covered the entire bottom. I could not cut it off of his nail without clipping him or messing up his nail. I was wondering if there was any other solution to this? Maybe putting his nail into a solution in order to be able to gently pull it off instead of ripping it. If not, then I will take him and his brother to the vets and hopefully that would work. Thank you for reading my post and I greatly appreciate any advice you may offer us :)

Soak it a while in some warm water and see if it softens up. Bottle caps or small condiment cups may good piggy footbaths.

What color is it? Are your guinea pigs male?

If it is a food item, soaking should work.
