I have not changed my buying habits. But do focus more on "healthy" dented cans :-)

If I run through the supplies I got for meals, we'll be eating a lot of pb & crackers.

Great article Sef.

Per pinta's comment - trump keeps editing the story:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/18/coronavirus-donald-trump-timeline

Majority approves of trump's handling of coronavirus - how can this be possible?

That WaPo story probably has a paywall. Stick with sef's on other thread.

WaPo has lifted its paywall for all coronavirus stories. Most other papers have also.

I made it a hard link with [ url ] tags because the automatic link thing dropped part of the link. It seems to work now. My ad blocker meant I couldn't read it though. WP is not friendly at all.

I was going to post this on the other thread because it's non-political. But like everything else, it will slide into politics.

An old friend of mine who lives in Idaho has a daughter who is a nurse in Seattle. Her daughter has just been reassigned to triage- worry for the daughter & horrors that triage is happening, although it shouldn't be a surprise.

I had to pick up some medicine at the vet and was trying too figure out the best way to get in & out without touching anything with my bare hand. Turns out they have it all set up so you stay in your car, charge it over the phone & they come out with it wearing gloves. I'm sure they're only doing emergencies, but I think they're just letting the animals in & talk to the owners over the phone. As of tomorrow we're shutdown with some exceptions, vets being one of them.

Emergency physician Dr. Megan Ranney says that despite what President Trump said, it's impossible to sterilize the N95 masks as the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow:

I don't think anyone shared this really interesting (and ultimately encouraging) article. A deep dive but worth it.

1. Minimize deaths without crippling the economy for years.
2. Use extreme measures for a relatively short time to suppress the US epidemic and drive down the number of new infections to a low rate.
3. Then relax some restrictions to just barely maintain that rate, buying us time to develop drugs and a vaccine, without crippling the economy.

I haven't read all the way through, yet, but it makes good sense so far:
“Go hard right now. Order heavy social distancing. Get this thing under control. Then, release the measures, so that people can gradually get back their freedoms and something approaching normal social and economic life can resume."
On the other hand...this is just insane:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/23/trump-coronavirus-lockdown-skepticism-143800
"The fear of the virus cannot collapse our economy that President Trump has built up," read a tweet shared by the president. "We The People are smart enough to keep away from others if we know that we are sick or they are sick! After 15 days are over the world can begin to heal!"

I'm only a third through it but it is great! I love the simple explanations and the graphs.

And yet Trump thinks we need to suspend social distancing sooner vs. than later.
